NOTES FROM OUR FARM We would like to send a special "Thank you!" to all who braved the winter weather of 2007 to visit out farm for their Christmas trees. The weather may have slowed us down a bit, too, but we were pleased to have so many old customers and friends return again. Despite the relatively tough winter, we have already begun to plan for next year so we will have another selection of great Christmas trees like we had for 2007. To keep up with the increasing demand, we will clear additional land and plant more seedlings again this spring. We will be busy in the fall, too, and we plan plant a 1000 more. It takes about seven years for a "planting" to grow into a suitable tree for tagging. We hope 2008 will prove to be a good another good growing season. We practice "green farming" so we can keep our "Carbon Footprint" to a minimum and to make up for those who don't. In the summer, we run our tractors on used "veggie oil" we get from local restaurants. As we clear land for new areas to plant our trees, we use the hardwoods for fuel to heat our barn and buildings. No oil. All our buildings are super insulated and solar oriented. We chip wood that is not useable and return it to the earth. We have been doing this for thirty years now, way before it became the "hip" or fashionable thing to do. We feel that our conservation practices have been way ahead of our times. For us it offers two things. It is good business and keeps our operating costs down as well as helps us keep the earth a nice place to live. We could not be here today if I didn't do these things. Taxes and other operating costs are going up at such a rate that if we didn't, we would have been out of business long ago. Also, if we inflated the cost of our products to keep pace with the rate of real estate tax increases for example, no one would come here and pay the price. We're developing an idea about offering a new "Carbon Credits" tree planting program for our customers that we think will . Be sure to contact for details. Despite all our
extra clearing of land and additional plantings we did in 2007, demand for
our Christmas trees was much greater than we had ever expected. Thanks to
a local associate we were able to bring in a backup supply of select New
Hampshire grown Fraser firs so our customers won't be disappointed. And
they were beautiful. We apologize for any
inconvenience and look forward to your visit in 2008. Tracy and Steve Forster |
